Winter Night Shelter MK Big Sleep Out 2021

The pandemic has been devastating for everyone. However, some people have been worst affected and are still struggling to get access to necessities including food and shelter. With the oncoming winter, the situation will become harsher for these individuals, and they will need all the help they can get to survive the cold and cruel weather. The Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes provides life-saving accommodation and helps people in crisis.

As part of their efforts, the WNSMK recently organised Big Sleep Out 2021 on 22nd October to raise funds for providing support to the homeless and vulnerable people in need this winter. As part of the initiative, volunteers Felicity Candler-O’Donnell and Gerry O’Donnell slept out for a night at the Winter Night Shelter Unity Park Station in Milton Keynes to help raise funds for WNSMK. Thanks to the many donors and supporters who came out and contributed towards the initiative, they were able to raise £5,675.52, plus an additional £1,065.09, and smash the original target of £500. Moreover, Felicity has raised £1,010 plus gift aid so far, against her original target of £200, with the help of friends and supporters across the UK.

If you would like to do your bit and help someone in need ahead of the winter, donations are still being accepted for this cause. You can contribute an amount of your choice here – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Felicity-Candler-O-Donnell.

The WNSMK is a year-round charity that provides emergency winter accommodation, year-round welfare support, food, somewhere to shower and do laundry and help to come off the streets into a better future. They currently have up to 100 people a week accessing different services at their day centre, some of whom are rough sleepers, some are sofa surfers or those who are vulnerably housed or in danger of losing their accommodation. This life-giving support is provided by a network of wonderful volunteers who work day and night to help those in need. You can find out more about our charity, volunteer or donate to us here.
